Don't you just love when...

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 12, 2009, 12:12 PM
You spend hours working your best on something, and no one makes any notice of it? Yet when you spend all of 5 minutes on one thing, everyone thinks it's an amazing masterpiece?
Happened to me today. I had a history assignment, you could draw a picture, write a poem, make a movie poster, or write an essay. I decided to write a poem. I write the poem off the top of my head one day, last minute, JUST before it's due. I give it to my teacher, she makes no note of anything. A week or so later (today) she pulls me aside and says "About your poem, you did good on it, got 100, but I want to put it into Reflections*." I just sort of gave her a half smile, and said okay. I did pretty much the worst on it, yet she thinks it's my best. I showed her some other poems I've done that I thought were good, and she thought they pretty much sucked. Happen to anyone else?

* Reflections is a magazine my school produces at the end of the year. We gather a ton of poetry, short stories, photography, and artwork and put it all together. I'm one of 5 editors throughout the school that does it.

  • Mood: Stumped
  • Listening to: A Sublime CD
  • Reading: "Tempted" by P.C. Cast + Kristin Cast
  • Eating: Peanut brittle
  • Drinking: Water.

That always used to happen to me at school. But luckily because the students made all the decisions on the poetry and art collection books, I got to put what I loved in there and not what everyone else loved.

Yeah, see you can put pretty much anything in there as long as they approve it. But sometimes teachers will just take your work, ask you to sign it over to them ( not necessarily the rights, but you're approval to have it published under your name) and then it's just in.

YES!! That happens to me all the time! I wrote one poem the period before English class and my teacher and friend loved it, but other things I work really hard on are just okayish. I guess people are more creative when they're in the right mood... Often last-minute panic!

Hahahahaha. I'm better at just writing when inspired. For me my poetry and lyrics aren't something I have to think about. They just flow naturally, and I think I'm really lucky because of that.

Yeah, that's a good talent to have! I think the brain does its best work when it's practically vomiting, not slowly squeezing out ideas! Haha, weird analogy...
